The official first day of spring practice is Tuesday, May 22nd. This next phase of football, spring and summer, is a very busy time and we will be moving at a much faster tempo than we have been. There are also expectations, policies and procedures for players and parents to adapt to as we move closer to the 2012 Fall season. Spring is an important time and everyday is an evaluation of Attitude, Concentration and Effort. Below you will find links to important information regarding calendar and expectations. There is also a link to Gamebreaker Helmets website for those parents who wish to purchase a Forest Green soft helmet for spring and summer. Finally, the summer camp registration form is available for download. This form must be completed and turned into Coach Terry by June 15th.

Dear Vaquero Football Family,
I recently decided to join the Cook family and participate in Climb to Cure on Saturday, June 23rd. Why don't you join our team? The more people the merrier, and the better for CureDuchenne. We need people like you on our team.
You will be participating in an event that raises money to fund projects that will have an immediate and measurable impact to save this generation of DMD boys. We need your support so please do anything you can — join my team, register as an individual or make a donation on my behalf. To learn more about Duchenne log on to CureDuchenne.org.
Thank you so much for all of your support and I look forward to seeing you on June 23rd.
Sincerely,
Erik Terry

The offseason points system is in place to insure that players are committed to being an Irvine Football player and willing to meet the expectations of the program. The system is based on the 18 week period that is the spring semester. A more detailed explanation follows:
OFFSEASON POINT SYSTEM
Each player will receive points during the offseason for attendance, participation, community service, grades and extra workouts. A player’s individual points will be used to determine his standing in the program. Each player must earn a minimum of 350 points (100 must be from Community Service) by June 15th in order to remain in the football program. In addition, players will be allowed to choose their uniform numbers based on the total amount of points they accrue. Finally, a player’s individual points will also be added to his squadron’s overall totals and the squadron with the highest point total will receive a reward.
Attendance and Participation
10 pts (weekly) Offseason Football Class attendance
10 pts (weekly) Spring Sports athletes doing 2 workouts per week
5 pts Team meeting attendance
Community Service
5 pts for each hour you work
Grades (each grading period)
4 pts Each “A” in an academic course
3 pts Each “B” in an academic course
2 pts Each “C” in an academic Course
Extra Workouts
2 pts Each Extra Workout you do from the list posted in the football office
2 pts Attendance at any “optional” zero period skills practices
Football Points (250 minimum)
If a player were to meet his daily attendance and participation requirement for the entire semester he would earn 200 points. The extra 50 points could be earned through his quarter 2 and quarter 3 grades or by him doing "extra" workouts that are designed to make him a better player. Players may do up to 10 points of "extra" workouts per day (or 50 points per week). Spring sports athletes will need to add "extra" workouts in when they can so as not to fall behind.
Community Service Points (100 minimum)
Players must volunteer for the pre-arranged community service activities through the football program. The goal is for players to work side by side with their teammates as they volunteer their time to events like the Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Woodbury Jog-a-Thon, Marine Car Wash and more.

The 2012 “VAQUERO LIFT~A~THON” will benefit our program by helping to fund the purchase of equipment, uniforms and supplies integral to the operation of our team.
A flat donation in the players name would be appreciated to help our program. The goal for the Lift A Thon is $10,000. Checks can be made payable to: Irvine Athletic Boosters (put the players name in the memo line). Pay-pal is also available by clicking on the link below.. A donation sheet and information letter has been provided to each player. Prizes will be awarded for the top three donations.

The mission of Irvine Football is to instill ideals and values in young men that they need for future success in life. Football is filled with many life learning experiences that, if approached and handled in the right way, can be beneficial to the mental, physical and emotional development of all the young men involved. A good football program teaches young men the true meaning of discipline, dedication, perseverance, commitment, accountability and competition, just to name a few. Regardless of the won/loss record, every young man stands to become a better man by the lessons he will learn in this program. The true measure of the success of a football program lies in the testimonies of former players regarding their perseverance towards achievement of a goal, their rise above adversity, their relationship development with themselves as well as others, and numerous other items that cannot be objectively evaluated. The high school football experience can and should be a rewarding one. If a young man completes four years in the Irvine Football program he will be a better man for it.
