It was looking kind of bleak for Irvine High’s football team in the final quarter of Friday’s Pacific Coast League game with Beckman. But the Vaqueros rallied with a late touchdown to defeat the Patriots, 28-25, at Irvine Stadium. “Wow, the fans got their money’s worth,” said Irvine Coach Terry Henigan. “We were lucky to get out of their alive, because I think we made more mistakes than they did.” But Irvine benefited from a sensational offensive performance, led by quarterback D.J. Crumlich who completed 20 of 30 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Nate Jeffries had 10 catches for 121 yards and one touchdown. Beckman was led by D’Amato Tyson, who rushed for 106 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns. Quarterback Sebastian Vollaerts was also solid, completing 9 of 16 passes for 165 yards. But in the end, the Vaqueros were able to come through when they needed to. Crumlich connected with Chasen LaMarr on a 8-yard TD pass with 1:48 left to put the Vaqueros ahead, and Beckman was unable to move the ball on its final drive. The biggest play of the game came on a fourth and five play at the Irvine 48. With just 3:59 left, the Vaqueros (7-1, 1-1) elected to go for the first down. Crumlich scrambled to the Beckman 46 for a first down and when he was hit out of bounds, Beckman was assessed a personal foul, moving the ball to the Patriots 31-yard line. “The line blocked and I didn’t have to do much,” said Crumlich. “I just ran out of bounds and got the late hit and that was a big play and it got us in range for a touchdown.” Beckman (5-2, 0-2) had gone ahead, 25-21, when Vollaerts connected with D’Amato Tyson on a 54-yard screen pass for a touchdown with 8:21 lead. The touchdown was set up when Irvine fumbled a punt at the Beckman 46-yard line. “We tried real hard, we had a lot of mistakes on both sides of the ball, we had opportunities,” Beckman Coach Brian Mustain said. “They gave us the opportunities, we gave them the opportunities, they capitalized one more time than we did.” Irvine had its problems with penalties. The Vaqueros were flagged for 55 yards in the first half. Beckman suffered problems on conversions, which ultimately cost the Patriots a victory. Beckman had one point after kick blocked, then was unsuccessful on two other two-point conversions. Irvine took the early lead when Crumlich connected with LaMarr on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 8:05 left in the first quarter. Tyson scored later in the quarter on a 1-yard TD run to cut the lead to 7-6. However, Cameron Casty’s kick was blocked. The Vaqueros extended their lead to 14-6 when Crumlich hit Jeffries on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 9:34 left in the second quarter. Irvine had a chance to increase its lead late in the quarter. But the drive stalled at the 4-yard line and Joe Howard couldn’t convert a 21-yard field goal attempt. In the third quarter, Beckman closed the gap to 14-12 when Tyson scored from 6 yards out with 8:35 left. A fired up Beckman defensive unit then held Irvine. The Patriots then moved ahead, 19-14, when Vollaerts connected with Casty on a 7-yard TD pass with 2:46 left. Irvine responded on its next drive, moving ahead, 21-14, on a 1-yard TD run by Crumlich. But Crumlich and his teammates couldn’t relax until they had survived Beckman’s fourth quarter rally. “Our kids played hard and their kids played hard, but it’s high school football and they’re going to make mistakes,” said Henigan. “We made some, but we won, that’s the bottom line.” Mustain was proud of the effort of Tyson, who was determined to give the Patriots their first league victory. “That might have been one of his best games ever at Beckman High,” Mustain said. “He played as hard as he ever has.” Irvine also had an unsung hero in LaMarr, who had the two touchdown catches. “He’s a senior,” said Henigan. “He’s unknown on Friday nights, but not unknown Monday through Thursday. He’s always worked hard and he’s always been a scout type guy. “But he has been playing some this year but we haven’t thrown the football to him. We got faith in everybody, so he was the guy.” STAT LEADERS Rushing – Beckman – Tyson 15-106; Irvine Reihanifam 18-92. Passing – Beckman – Vollaerts 9-16-0-165; Crumlich 20-30-1-267. Receiving – Beckman Lowe 3-41, Allenbach 2-38; Irvine Jeffries 10-121, McNab 4-81.

All high school extracurricular activities, including football games, in Irvine this weekend have been postponed because of poor air quality caused by the Santiago fire, it was determined Thursday.
The county's superintendent of schools made the decision to postpone all extracurricular activities, including football games, in the county through Saturday in a conference call on Thursday.
It will affect five football games in Irvine this weekend.
Four were to be played on Friday: Woodbridge at Trabuco Hills, Foothill vs. Northwood at Irvine Stadium, University at Laguna Hills and Cerritos vs. Beckman at Tustin High.
In addition, Saturday's Corona del Mar vs. Irvine game at Irvine Stadium was also postponed.
No makeup days have been announced, but officials are looking at rescheduling games on Monday.
"I obviously understand why games were called off," said Woodbridge Coach Rick Gibson. "But it's definitely going to cause some issues scheduling. Nothing has been sent to us about rescheduling, but if we are to make our game up Monday, then we will probably have to go to a location other than where we were going to play (Trabuco Hills)."
The decision by superintendents affects other sports today as well and restricts athletic teams to practicing inside for the fourth day in a row because of poor air quality.
This web site will provide make-up dates once they become available.

IRVINE - University ended a five-game losing streak against Irvine on Friday night by topping the Vaqueros, 31-14, in the Pacific Coast League opener at Irvine Stadium.
The Trojans rallied from a 14-10 halftime deficit to defeat the Vaqueros, then celebrated the victory by dousing Coach Mark Cunningham with a bucket of ice water.
University (6-0, 1-0) scored 21 consecutive points in the second half to snap its losing streak to Irvine (6-1, 0-1).
"It's a great victory," Cunningham said, "but you very seldom get a chance when you're at this point of the season to play someone else who is undefeated, and you're lucky enough to overcome them."
University had too many offensive weapons for Irvine to contain.
The Trojans were led by quarterback Parker Thompson, who completed 10 of 16 passes for 159 yards.
Timothy Smith also had a big game, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 144 yards on 27 carries.
Smith's 17-yard touchdown run with 6:09 left in the third put the Trojans ahead, 17-14.
After that, University was in control.
"They played better," Irvine coach Terry Henigan said. "They whipped us. They were better prepared by their coaching staff, and they just played better."
Irvine was led by quarterback D.J. Crumlich, who completed 12 of 29 passes for 132 yards.
University's defense held Irvine to 64 yards rushing.
Henigan hits milestone

Irvine Coach Terry Henigan notched his 200th career victory Thursday night as the Vaqueros rolled past Calvary Chapel, 27-7, in a nonleague game at Orange Coast College.
But Henigan, who has coached at Irvine since 1981, tried to deflect the attention as his team presented him the game ball.
"When I'm done with my career, I think I'll really appreciate it, but right now, we got to stay on task and the task is to get ready for Northwood. We're 4-0 and it's been a long time since Irvine has been 4-0."
The Vaqueros led, 17-0, after one quarter.
Quarterback D.J. Crumlich led Irvine, completing 9 of 17 passes for 133 yards and returned a punt 72 yards for a TD. Calvary Chapel (0-4) was led by Tikey Mahlow, who completed passed for 115 yards.

Vaqs end the streak; crush Warriors, 42-13
By TIM BURT
Irvine World News
Irvine High's football team ended the streak Thursday night against Woodbridge and did so in a rather convincing manner.
The Vaqueros rolled to a 42-13 nonleague victory over the Warriors in front of a capacity crowd of more than 3,500 at Irvine Stadium.
Woodbridge had won the last three match-ups, but Irvine, which holds a 13-8-1 advantage in the series, was determined to end the streak.
The Vaqueros did just that with a dominating performance.
"You don't want to lose to any team four years in a row, but especially a city rival you would hope not to," said Irvine Coach Terry Henigan. "This is a big win, they beat us three years in a row, they're a Sea View League team and we're thrilled."
The Vaqueros (2-0) were nearly perfect in the first half.
Quarterback D.J. Crumlich completed his first 11 passes, four for touchdowns to help the Vaqueros move out to a 35-0 lead at halftime.
Crumlich completed 12 of 13 passes for 167 yards but was held out of the second half with Irvine in control.
"They beat us the last three years and the senior class said we couldn't go out not beating Woodbridge once," Crumlich said. "The guys were hyped up and it was probably the most perfect it could be.
"We'll remember this game for the rest of our lives."
Irvine also had big contributions from Cheyne McNab and Andrew Payne, who each scored two touchdowns.
It was a long night for Woodbridge, which was playing its first game of the year.
"I thought Irvine outplayed us in every fact of the game," said Woodbridge Coach Rick Gibson. "They were very motivated, they outcoached us, out-played us, out-hit us.
"There was not a whole lot that we did well tonight. And they did almost everything perfectly.
"We had a pretty good scrimmage and felt pretty good with our defense and they exploited some weaknesses that we had a did a great job of it."
Payne hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from Crumlich in the first quarter to put the Vaqueros ahead, 7-0.
Crumlich then hit McNab on a 17-yard touchdown late in the first half to make it 14-0.
The Vaqueros didn't let up in the second quarter.
McNab hauled in an 8-yard TD pass to give Irvine a 21-0 lead.
Justin Reihanifam then scored on a 7-yard touchdown run and Crumlich hit Nate Jeffries on a 12-yard touchdown pass to put the Vaqueros ahead, 35-0.
In the third quarter, Payne scored on a 40-yard run with 9:29 left to make it 42-0.
Woodbridge uarterback David Ingram broke the shutout with a 7-yard TD run in the third quarter.
The Warriors added another touchdown in the fourth quarter when Ingram connected with Kyle O'Mara on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 4:14 left.
Ingram completed 11 of 24 passes for 104 yards with two interceptions to lead the Warriors. James Parr hauled in five catches for 60 yards.
Irvine sacked Ingram four times and held the Warriors to 80 yards rushing.
"They (the defense) played good," Henigan said. "Everybody played pretty well."

Irvine fails to stop Fletcher, Valencia
The Tigers' star back leads them to a 38-14 victory in the quarterfinals.

IRVINE - Irvine tried to devise a plan to contain Valencia senior running back Wes Fletcher on Friday night. But like so many teams this season, the Vaqueros had little success. Fletcher rushed for 278 yards on 32 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 38-14 victory over Irvine in the second round of the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs at Irvine High. Valencia (8-2-1) advances into the semifinals next week against the winner of the Anaheim-Cypress game to be played Saturday. “It was probably one of our best games this year,” Fletcher said. “Everyone doubted us, but we just played smash-mouth football as Valencia does.” Irvine (8-3) scored on its opening drive when quarterback D.J. Crumlich connected with Chris Hong on a 36-yard touchdown pass with 10:08 left in the first quarter. But Valencia took over after that, scoring on its next four drives. Fletcher scored on a 1-yard TD run midway through the first quarter to tie the score. Then, he scored on runs of 23 and 3 yards in the second quarter to help the Tigers take a 21-7 lead. Jesse Sandoval kicked a 25-yard field goal late in the second quarter to give Valencia a 24-7 lead. “It’s not just Fletcher, it’s their O-line,” Irvine coach Terry Henigan said. “I might have run through some of those holes. He’s a great running back but up front they took it to us and we knew we were going to have a hard time with them. “They’ve got the complete package.” With Fletcher dominating the game, Valencia quarterback Dave Pina only passed twice, completing both attempts for 25 yards. Crumlich completed 20 of 34 passes for 215 yards but Kelii Jackson intercepted two of his passes. Nate Jeffries hauled in 11 catches for 91 yards for Irvine.

It's round two of the CIF football playoffs Friday night.
Irvine (8-2) will host Valencia (7-2-1) at 7 p.m. at Irvine Stadium while University (10-0) will play Kennedy (7-3) at 7 p.m. at Western High.
Valencia opened the playoffs with a 58-28 victory over Savanna.
Irvine and Valencia have had numerous battles over the years and Valencia's Mike Marrujo is one of the county's winningest coaches.
"He's definitely one of the best coaches in Orange County, I think he's third in terms of all-time wins," said Coach Terry Henigan. "He does many of the same things he was doing in the early 2,000's. They're big, they're physical with a good defense, offense and special teams, just what you would expect from a Coach Marrujo football team.
"But we're hopefully going to be up to the task. We're going to prepare as hard as we can and if we can go out and execute, hopefully we'll come out with a victory."
The winner of Friday's game moves on to face the winner of the Cypress-Anaheim game in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 30.
University will have its hands full Friday night when it faces defending Southern Division champion Kennedy at 7 p.m. at Western High.
"They were co-league champions of the Empire League which still has all four of their entries in the playoffs," said University Coach Mark Cunningham.
"University will be the obvious underdogs in this game.
"Kennedy has an outstanding receiver in Tony Nunez. They have two outstanding running backs in Corey Smith and Steve Salazar. Their quarterback is Zach Ende who has directed the offense to a league championship. Defensively they are led by Eli Tekario and Ryan See.
"Their offensive and defensive line is anchored by Jeremy Hensley."
The Trojans are hoping that Timothy Smith, their star running back, will be available.
"Tim Smith should be able to play for some part of the game," Cunningham said.

NEWPORT BEACH After slow starts by both teams in the opening round of the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs, Irvine pulled away from Estancia in the second half to win, 24-6, on Friday at Newport Harbor High.
“We’re going to be practicing on Monday, that’s all we wanted,” Irvine coach Terry Henigan said. “I’m happy, I tell you what, they played well; we had our work cut out for us.”
After Irvine (8-2) stepped out to a 10-0 lead at halftime, Estancia (5-6) came out of the break a different team. Consecutive first-down runs by senior Carlos Mendez seemed to have the Eagles into an offensive groove. However, a key stop on fourth-and-1 by the Vaqueros set the course for the remainder of the game.
On its ensuing possession, Irvine marched down the field in six plays. Senior running back Andrew Payne scored from 3 yards out for a 17-0 lead. Payne finished with 96 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns.
Estancia managed to avoid the shutout when junior quarterback Radames Gutierrez found senior wide receiver Eddie Tomaseki n the end zone from 19 yards out. Gutierrez finished 12 of 19 for 107 yards.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Nate Jeffries
Wide receiver/Safety, Irvine High
Nate Jeffries hasn’t let anything get in the way of his senior season of football at Irvine. The receiver and free safety hurt his shoulder in the Vaqueros’ game against Northwood on Sept. 28. But Jeffries, who had his junior season end early because of an injury, has fought through the pain and been one of the standout players and leaders for Irvine. Jeffries has a team-high 33 receptions for 416 yards and three touchdowns, including recording 10 catches for 121 yards and a touchdown in Irvine’s come from behind 28-25 win over Beckman last Friday. Jeffries was a baseball player all his life before joining the Irvine football team as a sophomore. He said it has been the best experience of his life.

THE LATEST SCHEDULE CHANGES:
----All five high school varsity football games this weekend and all lower level football games have been postoned.
--- UC Irvine has postponed its men's soccer match with UC Riverside, scheduled for tonight (Wednesday). Officials will select an alternative date later.
--- All City of Irvine adult softball league games for Wednesday have been postponed. It's the third day in a row that the schedule has been postponed. Games will be added to the end of the schedule, according to Mike Miles, softball coordinator for the city.
--- The Pacific Coast League cluster cross country meet involving Irvine and University scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled.
--- The Pacific Coast League girls volleyball match between Laguna Hills and University at University Thursday has been postponed and will be made up on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 5:30 p.m.
--- The Pacific Coast League water polo match between University and Corona del Mar has been postponed with no makeup date.
----The freshmen and junior varsity football games between University and Laguna Hills have been cancelled.
----The UC Irvine men's water polo match between UC San Diego and UC Irvine has been postponed with no makeup date.
---The Concordia men's and women's soccer matches, with Point Loma Nazarene, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesay, have been moved to Thursday, Oct. 25.
The games will be played as part of a doubleheader. The women will play at 1 p.m. and the men at approximately 3 p.m.
SCHEDULE CHANGES FROM TUESDAY:
--- The Laguna Hills at University girls tennis match. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. at University.
--- The Woodbridge-El Toro girls volleyball match scheduled for Tuesday at Woodbridge has been postponed.
No makeup has been announced.
--- The Irvine at Beckman girls volleyball match scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed. According to Beckman Athletic Director Nick Beronich, the match will be rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Beckman.
--- Irvine High's water polo match at Dana Hills Tuesday has been postponed with no makeup date.
--- The Irvine Valley College women's soccer match with Santa Ana, scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed and rescheduled to next Monday at 3 p.m. at Irvine Valley.

With its 31-14 victory over Irvine Friday night, University High's football team moved closer to winning the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy.
However, the winner won't be decided until the final week of the season.
The Trojans are 3-0 with victories over Northwood, Woodbridge and Irvine.
University would win the Fence Post Trophy outright by defeating Beckman in the final week of the regular season on Nov. 8 at Irvine Stadium.
That would leave University with a 4-0 mark against city rivals.
Beckman (the school is in Irvine and part of the Tustin Unified School District) is in the running for the Fence Post for the third year.
The Patriots are 2-0 with victories over Northwood and Woodbridge.
The Patriots have two games left against city rivals, including Friday's game with Irvine at Irvine Stadium and the contest with University.
Irvine is 2-1 with wins over Woodbridge and Northwood and a loss to University.
If University defeats Beckman in the final week, it would be 4-0 and would win the Fence Post.
If Beckman defeats Irvine Friday night, it would be 3-0, would knock Irvine out of the running and would meet University with a chance to win the trophy.
If Beckman loses to Irvine Friday night, it could still win the trophy by defeating University in the final week because three teams would be tied with 3-1 records and a tie-breaker would be used.
Irvine could win it if it defeats Beckman Friday and Beckman defeats University because there would be a tie.
If three teams wind up 3-1, the team with the highest league standing would be declared the winner.
If there is still a tie, the team that allowed the fewest points in the first half against its four city rivals would be declared the champion.
And if there is still a tie, the team that allowed the fewest points in the entire game against their four city rivals would be declared the champion.
Woodbridge and Northwood, both 0-3, are out of the Fence Post race.
Woodbridge won the trophy last year.
This is the first time that all five high school programs in Irvine have played each other.
The trophy is named in honor of Dennis Toohey, the late youth football coach.
Members of the Toohey family are expected to be in attendance for the presentation of the award this year.

Irvine has had the upper hand in the series, winning the last five games, including a 24-7 decision last year.
Irvine leads the series, 21-8.
The game will have a major impact on who wins the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy.
Both teams have defeated Northwood and Woodbridge.

"It will be a clean game and a great game."
The fact that both teams come into the game undefeated makes it a special match-up.
"Never in my 20 years as coach can I remember both teams going into the game undefeated, other than when we played in the first game of the year," said Cunningham.
Irvine coach Terry Henigan said he and his players have lots of respect for University.
"Uni has a lot of players back from last year and we played them in the passing summer scrimmage where they looked outstanding," Henigan said. "It's an excellent ball club, that's for sure.

A coach with priorities
A coach with priorities
Irvine coach Terry Henigan has always put his football team first.
So, it wasn’t surprising how Henigan reacted after his squad defeated Calvary Chapel, 27-7, Thursday night at Orange Coast College.
Henigan preferred to talk about his team’s 4-0 record, rather than the fact that he had just won his 200th career game. That puts Henigan in some elite company. He is the sixth coach in the county to notch 200 wins, according to the Orange County Register.
Henigan claimed he didn’t know it was his 200th until assistant coaches and players congratulated him after the game.
There will be time to talk about individual accomplishments later, he said. Henigan was focused on the game just played and the game ahead, Friday, vs. Northwood.
So while other coaches, players and fans can get excited about the accomplishment, don’t expect Henigan to.
That’s just not his nature – his focus is on his football players, and that is likely why he’s regarded as one of the best in the county.
As for his future, Henigan made it clear that he plans to be around Irvine football for many years, which is certainly good news to the hundreds of players whose lives he has touched.
NORTHWOOD-IRVINE
Are you ready for Northwood vs. Irvine, the sequel?
The cross-town rivals square off Friday night at Irvine Stadium in the second varsity meeting between the two teams.
With a victory, Irvine could keep its hopes alive for winning the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy.
“The district schools look forward to playing each other and it should be an exciting thing for all schools,” said Henigan. “Everybody would like to get the Dennis Toohey Fence Post Trophy and every game counts toward that.”
Irvine comes in 4-0 while Northwood is 0-4.
“The four teams they’ve played have an overall record of 10-3,” Henigan said. “The four teams we’ve played have an overall record of 1-13. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that our records could be reversed if we had reverse schedules.
“We’re aware of that; we have a lot of respect for Northwood and what they’ve accomplished and where their program has been and we know we’re in for a battle and hopefully our kids will be up to it.”
The Timberwolves are also excited.
“This is obviously a big game for us and we look forward to playing such a great team in Irvine and a legendary coach in Terry Henigan,” said Coach Rick Curtis.
“Irvine is a talented team with D.J. Crumlich leading the way on offense and they have an opportunistic defense that is very disciplined. Even though we lost last year, it was a great atmosphere and the spirit of competition and sportsmanship was at its highest.”
UNI EXPLOSIVE
University may have its best football team in years and the Trojans should go into Pacific Coast League play with an undefeated record.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK D.J. Crumlich Quarterback, Irvine High
Irvine senior quarterback D.J. Crumlich had a game to remember last Thursday night as the Vaqueros defeated cross-town rival Woodbridge, 42-13. Crumlich and the Irvine offense couldn't seem to do anything wrong. Crumlich completed his first 11 passes. His first incomplete actually came when he had to spike the ball to stop the clock.
"The whole team got into a rhythm," Crumlich said. "On every possession things clicked. Every pass I threw was caught. The line blocked great. Everything was perfect." In just the first half, Crumlich completed 12 of 13 passes for 167 yards and four touchdowns. And he used all of his receivers. The 12 completions were divied up among four players. "We have some new guys (at receiver), but there is really good chemistry," Crumlich said.
Crumlich, who is in his second year starting at quarterback at Irvine and third year starting on varsity overall, is also a standout baseball player for the Vaqueros. He was named all-league as a shortstop last season after hitting .373.
What Coach Terry Henigan says:
"D.J. was all-league and our MVP the last two years. He is a tremendous athlete who the players look up to for leadership. D.J. is an excellent student and young man. He is what high school athletics is all about."
What Crumlich says:
"Beating Woodbridge was great for our senior class and starting off 2-0 is definitely huge for us. All the guys are excited. We want to keep it going, game after game all season. We are going to do our best to keep this up."

Henigan captures win no. 200 as Vaqueros roll past Calvary Chapel 27-7
Irvine High football coach gets the game ball.
By TIM BURT
Irvine World News
Irvine High Coach Terry Henigan notched his 200 {+t}{+h}career victory Thursday night as his Vaqueros rolled past Calvary Chapel, 27-7, in a nonleague game at Orange Coast College.
But Henigan, who has coached at Irvine since 1981, tried to deflect the attention as his players and coaches presented him with the game ball.
The coach said he had no idea he was closing in on no. 200, which now gives him an overall record of 200-130-6.
"I don't count (victories)," Henigan said. "I know how many losses I have. When I've done with my career I think I'll really appreciate it, but we've got to stay on task and the task is to get ready for Northwood.
"The kids have played hard, they're 4-0 and it's been a long time since Irvine has been 4-0, that's for sure. We keep getting better."
After the Irvine coaches talked to the players about the game, assistant coach Marcello Giuliano informed the group that it was Henigan's 200 {+t}{+h}career victory.
The players and boosters responded with a round of applause.
Giuliano, who played for Henigan, described Henigan as a coach "with class" and one of the "best coaches around."
Henigan said he appreciated getting the game ball and made it a point that he hopes retirement is many years away.
"That's nice, it really is," said Henigan, who coached at Cypress from 1976-79 before coming to Irvine in 1981. "I'm just happy for these kids. They've worked so hard. We don't get into individual stuff, that's for later on."
Quarterback D.J. Crumlich said the Vaqueros weren't aware of the accomplishment until after the game.
"He's not a guy who will really talk about himself," Crumlich said. "I'm sure he didn't even know himself. As much as he appreciated it, he is much more involved in the team. I think getting the fourth victory of the season is much more important than him getting his 200 {+t}{+h}career victory."
Irvine was clicking from the beginning of the game.
Joe Howard kicked a 50-yard field goal in the first quarter. Howard made the field goal from 45 yards a play earlier, but an illegal procedure penalty backed him up five yards before he cleared the uprights again.
Irvine moved out to a 10-0 lead when Crumlich connected with Chris Hong on a 5-yard touchdown pass.
Crumlich broke the game open with a 72-yard punt return, which made it 17-0.
Howard added a 32-yard field goal and Justin Reihanifam ran over from nine yards out to put the Vaqueros ahead, 24-0.
Crumlich wound up completing 9 of 17 passes for 133 yards. Irvine, with backup Michael Sommer running the offense, did not attempt a pass in the second half.
Calvary Chapel (0-4) broke Irvine's bid for a second consecutive shutout when it scored in the fourth quarter.
Kevin Schick hooked up with C.J. Chiaravalloti on an 11-yard TD pass to make it 27-7.
