Football Practice

To: Frosh Football Parents and Players

From: Coach Mike Smith

As you all are aware this week starts the new school year.  For that reason football practice starting time has been re-adjusted.  Effective September 08, 2009, regular frosh football practice will begin at 2:45 PM.  There may be some days when there is a weight lifting session before football practice.  However, that should not impact their schedules as they should already be out of school for the day. As previously noted in my last letter to our parents I indicated that it will also be our goal to finish football practice by 5:45 PM each day to allow ample time for the boys to have a good dinner and then do their homework.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email or telephone me.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Letter From Coach Smith

TO: ALL FROSH FOOTBALL PARENTS AND PLAYERS
FROM: COACH MIKE SMITH
DATE: 1 SEPTEMBER 09
As we wind down with the “right of passage” (two-a-days) for our young Frosh players, I wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all the assistance you have provided to our freshman football program. Without that great support from our parents, we would not be able to pull this effort off, simple as that. So please know that I and the entire coaching staff are indebted to your commitment to our program on behalf of your fine sons. They seem to be in great spirits and have weathered the process quite well!
I also wanted to refine the schedule for the rest of this week. Today as I write this we are on the eve of our final two-a-days. Tomorrow, Wednesday (9-2-09), the freshman will assemble on campus at 7:00 am for registration. That process should take approximately an hour and a half, at which point, they will report for practice at 9:00 am. We intend on staying on schedule for the rest of this week and that practice should last 2 ½ hours. We will have our second practice at 4:00 pm and that should last 2 ½ hours. They should be ready for pick-up 30 minutes after our practices end.
On Thursday (9-3-09), they have Freshman Orientation at 8:00 am and that will end at 1:00 pm. Practice will then be held at 3:00 pm. They should be able to stay on campus so you don’t have to make an extra trip between orientation and practice. That practice will be a “game walk through” and should be over by 4:30 pm.
On Friday (9-4-09), we have our scrimmage and the boys need to be on campus and dressed by 12:45 pm so that we can load the bus and travel to Sunny Hills High School. The scrimmage is tentatively set for 2:30 pm, but that high school is in session so it may be delayed for a couple of minutes.
And finally, on Saturday (9-5-09), we will have a short exercise practice that will begin at 8 am, and then watch some game film. This should last approximately 2 hours.
And now my final request………..if any parent could film our scrimmage this Friday, we would be eternally grateful. I know there are parents who have volunteered to film our games so I just need one of them to let me know their availability and I will give them instructions at the field on Friday. I may be reached at (714) 655-7676 or email me at mikes5971@yahoo.com.
Again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you at all our Frosh games. GO VAQUEROS!!!

Summer Camp

Attention all IHS freshman football players & parents!!!

This is just a reminder that we will begin our freshman football summer camp THIS TUESDAY, June 23rd @ 4pm. All players (parents optional) should plan on arriving about 45-60 minutes before we are scheduled to start as we will begin to issue spirit packs and lockers to those who turn in/have turned in completed physical forms, summer camp registration form(s), and have either paid or made arrangements with Ms.Theresa Delvac to pay the summer camp fee. We will have a table set in front of the football office to take care of all business/administration matters before we “officially” walk on the field. It would be best, if a parent cannot attend, that you send players with all necessary forms/fees in a sealed envelope so items are not lost.

Players should look to the Freshman Bulletin Board in the Team Room for an updated summer calendar and practice plan for Tuesday.

We are looking forward to an exciting/eventful summer. Please be prepared to practice after administration business is handled. Note: As discussed at our parent orientation meeting in May, players should be ready to practice in their issued spirit pack, mid-calf white socks (no stripes, symbols, and/or colors), black cleats, an athletic hair cut, and no jewelry or extra equipment/garb of any kind. It is permissable to wear the issued Irvine Football t-shirt under your reversible tank top if you’d like. We will also have mouth pieces available for purchase for $1 at the football office. All players need to get a mouth piece, and it is required by the CIF that they not be clear or white. Green, black, and blue is preferred. There are special mouth pieces for athletes with braces, which cannot be purchased here at our office. If you do not have a mouth piece the first few days of camp, that is ok, as long as you have made plans to get one from us or another sporting goods store as soon as possible.

Ms. Delvac will be in attendance on Tuesday to handle finances, and we will have any other necessary forms for you as well. Feel free to ask questions on the first day so you can eliminate any potential issues the rest of the summer.

Finally, if you utilize any type of medical inhaler, you may bring it with you to camp each day and we will place it in the medical kit for safe keeping.

On behalf of the Freshman Football Staff, we thank you for your support, and look forward to working with you all throughout the year.
